Challenge #6: Create a Classroom Monitoring Portal
I used Netvibes for the first time this week. And just in time it seems, as today Google announced its discontinuing Google Reader, so Netvibes has posted a message apologizing for any slow-down due to all the new users its now getting!
It took a little playing with to learn how to set things up on Netvibes, but it looks like it could be a useful pull tool. And I love how it can be used for keeping track of posts on any given search term- though I think it just pulls from the blogosphere, news feeds and tweets. My Netvibes public page

Challenge #7: Empower Digital Citizenship Action
During library class this week, I'm asking all 3rd grade students (110 of them) to answer a survey about their access to and use of technology at home. The results so far are fascinating - 38% have a Smartphone, 30% use Facebook and 56% use LiveProfile. Given these percentages, we need to be having conversations with them about digital citizenship, especially the do's and don'ts of posting things online. I will likely extend this survey to 4th graders also, and share the results with elementary staff. And I need to start using LiveProfile myself to learn more about its potential for use and misuse! Survey results can be viewed here.
